On meta-photography and meta-photographs

Ana Peraica

Both my theoretic and practical interest in photography falls in meta-photographs: photographic images made out of other photographic pictures, beginning repro-photographs, collages and photomontages, generated images, or, most recently, AI pictures. I am interested in the way they produce knowledge about the medium itself and what meta-photographs speak on photographs. This is the theme I have been occupied with since 1999. More closely, my themes were; photographic reproducton of other media, most notably paintings, influence of photographs on painterly styles and vice versa, problems of authorship with photographic reproduction of artistic objects, political photographic rhetorics, photographic description of the world behind our back and augmentation of photographs with reality with selfie cameras, merging of photographs with maps in a variety of mixed media forms, resulting with perspectival distortion of both photographs and our comprehension of reality, and the most recently writing on photographic reproduction and repetition consolidating scientific argument of induction, with an attempt of understanding possiblities of producing deduction bases meta-photographic system of reasoning with photographs only. In addition to writing, as the inheritor of a 90-year-old professional photographic studio, I am also engaged in photographic practice. I photograph photographs, photographic technologies, and photographic ephemera as a part of my own practical research. In these pages you may find links to some of full books, but also to images .
